Yellow Warbler
Setophaga petechia

I started keeping a separate sightings list for the yellow warbler because I was tired of paging through notebooks to find the last one.
Perch posture is half the ID. A yellow warbler hunched, a yellow warbler alert, and a yellow warbler in the wind look like three different birds.
I avoid published counts of population estimates here. My interest is a sightings journal, not a density map.
First recorded sighting in this notebook was at a marshy edge near home in summer 2023. Since then I’ve logged sightings in four different states.
Some of my worst photographs are of this species. I keep trying anyway.
