Western Bumble Bee

At a certain point in late summer the birds quiet down and the western bumble bee starts getting my attention.

Wind is the enemy. A dead-calm ten minutes can give you more images than a windy hour.

My images for this species are all made with available light. I don’t use fill flash in the field.

I’ve photographed this species on nectar sources in several states and a couple of regions.

As always with insects, I welcome a correction from anyone who actually knows what they’re doing.
