Trumpeter Swan

I started keeping a separate sightings list for the trumpeter swan because I was tired of paging through notebooks to find the last one.

The call is the cheap win, the thing you pick up first because you don’t need the bird to sit still for it.

Taxonomy here follows a standard order-level frame (Anseriformes / Anatidae); common synonymies are noted when I’ve seen them used in the field.

A local patch has produced this species on roughly one in three visits, which is probably more than I deserve.

It’s a species I’d happily spend an entire morning watching without ever raising the camera.
