Red Fox

Vulpes vulpes

Red Fox at a waterhole in side light
Late afternoon, side light.
Red Fox crossing an open meadow
Late spring, rising light.

A red fox shows up in my notebook once or twice a season, always unplanned.

Signs on the ground tell you they’re around before you ever see one.

My images for this species are all made with available light. I don’t use fill flash in the field.

I’ve had close encounters on trails at dawn and on roads at dusk, which tracks with everything I’ve read.

There is no ID problem here, only a distance problem and a light problem.
