Long-billed Curlew

The long-billed curlew doesn’t get the attention it deserves, probably because it’s too common in some places and too remote in others.

In my experience, sex differences show up more reliably in the field than any field guide suggests; the plates always look cleaner than the bird.

Regional occurrence notes: I usually catch this species in the western north america part of its range.

First recorded sighting in this notebook was at a marshy edge near home in summer 2023. Since then I’ve logged sightings in four different states.

Anyway: not a rare bird, not a hard bird, but one I want on every trip.
