Lion's Mane

A rainy October is the short window when the lion’s mane becomes a regular in my folders.

A macro lens is useful but a phone up close is often enough for the record.

Regional occurrence notes: I usually catch this species in the temperate hardwood forests of the northern hemisphere part of its range.

I’ve been spot-on for this species maybe eight times out of ten in the last two years.

I don’t forage. Any mushroom I photograph stays where it is.
