Coast Redwood

Sequoia sempervirens

Coast Redwood in low overcast light
An October morning at the edge of town.
Coast Redwood in bloom
Before the wind picked up.

The coast redwood is a plant I know well enough to recognize and not well enough to key out.

I mostly photograph this species as part of a place, not as a portrait.

My images for this species are all made with available light. I don’t use fill flash in the field.

The light that works for this species is overcast, softened, and not dramatic.

Plant ID is its own craft and I’m in the slow part of the learning curve.
