Bobcat

Lynx rufus

Bobcat at a waterhole in side light
First light in September.

A bobcat shows up in my notebook once or twice a season, always unplanned.

The key to getting a good look at a bobcat is to hold still longer than you think you should.

I avoid published counts of population estimates here. My interest is a sightings journal, not a density map.

One sighting that sticks: a single animal crossing an open flat with no cover, moving faster than I expected.

I don’t need every sighting to produce a frame. Sometimes just watching is the whole thing.
