Blue-footed Booby

The blue-footed booby doesn’t get the attention it deserves, probably because it’s too common in some places and too remote in others.

Perch posture is half the ID. A blue-footed booby hunched, a blue-footed booby alert, and a blue-footed booby in the wind look like three different birds.

Regional occurrence notes: I usually catch this species in the eastern pacific coasts and islands part of its range.

One winter I had a pair stay on the same river bend from November into late March and I wasn’t sick of them at the end.

If I had to explain what pulled me into birding, I’d point at a blue-footed booby and not try to say more.
