Bighorn Sheep

I am not a mammal specialist, but the bighorn sheep is impossible to ignore once you’ve seen one well.

The key to getting a good look at a bighorn sheep is to hold still longer than you think you should.

Taxonomy here follows a standard order-level frame (Artiodactyla / Bovidae); common synonymies are noted when I’ve seen them used in the field.

I’ve had close encounters on trails at dawn and on roads at dusk, which tracks with everything I’ve read.

I’m learning to put the camera down earlier with mammals than I would with birds.
