American Pika
Ochotona princeps

The american pika is on my list partly by accident; I came for birds and got sidelined.
The key to getting a good look at a american pika is to hold still longer than you think you should.
My images for this species are all made with available light. I don’t use fill flash in the field.
I’ve had close encounters on trails at dawn and on roads at dusk, which tracks with everything I’ve read.
I don’t need every sighting to produce a frame. Sometimes just watching is the whole thing.
