Field notebook, three years in
Three years of field notes. What I still write down: species, counts, time, location, weather, and one line describing the best interaction of the session. What I’ve stopped writing: exposure data (the file has it), gear (ditto), and long editorial reflections in the field (I do those at the kitchen table now). The rule I’ll keep: no more than a page per trip. If a page isn’t enough the trip needs more trips.
