Backlight

A half-bright backlight rim on a darker bird is one of the best gifts a low sun will give you. For years I fought it by shooting the other direction. Now I try to shoot into it more often than not, exposing for the highlights and letting the subject go dark. Silhouettes with rim aren’t a novelty; they’re a better representation of what the eye actually registers in that light.
