Lesvos in spring migration
Flew into Mytilene and rented a car. Lesvos in late March is one of the classic spring migration hotspots in Europe — birds moving up through the eastern Mediterranean. I worked the north coast salt pans in the morning and the olive groves inland in the afternoon. Kallikerami salt pans had flamingos, stilts, avocets, and a Slender-billed Gull that I’d never seen before.
The guide I’d booked canceled and I worked alone. Still got more target species in three days than I had any right to.
