Hornstrandir at the end of the season
Booked the last boat of the season out of Ísafjörður. The rangers had already left. I hiked from Hesteyri toward the old whaling station at Hloduvik, camping once on the beach. The reserve is closed to motor vehicles and in October it is completely quiet. I was most hoping for an Arctic Fox close enough to photograph — they’re habituated to people in summer but wilder by fall — and I got one in blue phase on day two.
Carrying the 150-600 plus a tent plus a week of food was a choice I reconsidered every hour. Would do it again.
