Cornwall tidepools at Kynance

I walked down the long steep path to Kynance Cove with a friend at low tide, got sand in my camera bag in three different ways, and had a beautiful three hours on the rocks.

The tidepools on the Lizard Peninsula are different from the Pacific tidepools I’m used to. Beadlet Anemones in red and strawberry. Snakelocks Anemones that look like something from a cartoon. A single Cushion Star on a small shelf pool. Shore crabs under every rock you picked up (which we put back, because picking up tidepool rocks and not putting them back is a way to ruin the pool).

The serpentine rock itself is worth the photograph. Green, deep red, streaked with mineral. The whole cove has that iron color. I shot a bunch of texture frames with the short lens that I like a lot.

Not many birds. A few Rock Pipits along the cliff base and a single Peregrine overhead for about ten seconds. The tide came back fast and we had to pack up sooner than I wanted.

Lunch at the cafe on the cliff, unseasonable ice cream afterwards because we’d earned it on the climb back up. Cornwall is ridiculous and I’d go back tomorrow.
