About
This is a personal archive of photographs I’ve taken on walks since August 2023. I do not sell prints, take commissions, or run workshops. I am not a professional photographer. I am not even a very good amateur photographer. I post here because keeping photos in a folder felt like losing them and I wanted a place to return to.
What the site is
- Albums are outings. One walk, one album. Each album is somewhere between 6 and 30 photographs with short captions and a paragraph or two of context.
- Species is an index of what I’ve photographed, grouped by species. This is where most of the wildlife identifications live. I try to note uncertainty where I have it.
- Places is a list of the parks, trails, and shorelines I return to often, with notes on what’s around and when to visit.
- Journal is shorter written entries — corrections to earlier posts, gear notes, observations that don’t fit with a specific photo.
What the site is not
It’s not a birding diary in the eBird sense. I keep a separate eBird checklist offline; this site is about the pictures.
It’s not a gear review site. I own the cameras I use, I paid for them, nobody sends me anything.
It’s not an attempt to be comprehensive. I post what I got that day. If I went out and got nothing worth keeping, I usually don’t write anything.
About the photographs
All photographs here are mine unless a caption says otherwise. Most are lightly edited in Darktable or RawTherapee — exposure corrections, some cropping, occasional noise reduction when the light was terrible. I don’t composite, I don’t remove subjects from backgrounds, and I don’t substitute skies.
If you want to use a photograph for something, email me (mail@020823.xyz) and I’ll almost certainly say yes and send the full-res file. Please ask first.
About me
Intentionally kept vague. I’m not young. I’m not a professional nature writer. I live somewhere with a reasonable amount of public land and I travel a few times a year for family reasons, during which I usually take an extra suitcase for camera gear. The rest you can infer from the photos.
